NPM & Poetry Friday: T is for Hope

Here we are at the last Poetry Friday of National Poetry Month. I am in awe of everyone who shared a new poem daily. Congratulations! I have a few letters left to round out my alphabet of hope, which I’ll keep working on these into May. Why should April get all the fun?

T is for Hope

Why?

Because…

Taproots
sink
deep
into
the Earth,
soaking
up water,
anchoring
dandelions,
milkweeds,
and more.

Sustaining
life.

  1. “All of us together” is what your poem meant to me, Catherine. And thanks for “Wysauke” – new to me. My students studied and created botanical illustrations, not easy but a fun and illuminating project. I love the one you shared, too.

  2. How wonderful! Taproot is a delicious, thirst-quenching word. This poem is simple in words but satisfying in making me think about all that’s going on in the earth beneath me now.

  3. The dogleg in that milkweed root made me laugh. So THAT’S why I can never pull up the “extra” milkweed all the way to the tip of the root (and thus it comes back forever)! I wonder if they all do that?
